CENTRAL OHIO APA NEWS AND EVENTS

The American Poolplayers Association of Central Ohio has always been committed to building team growth to benefit players and host locations. In the last several years, we have created divisions based on demographics. Our goal is to keep players within 10-20 minutes of their own host location. We consider safety issues while players are driving to other locations to shoot pool. We understand how valuable your time is. We will NOT send you from one end of Columbus to another to shoot pool, unless specifically stated to you that a particular division will do that until there is enough growth to split the division into demographic sections. With the rise in gas prices, we are even more determined to provide local leagues to you. As a host location, if you have 3 tables, we encourage you to contact us about in-house leagues. Keep the players at home, keep them safe, save them money while you make money

The APA of Central Ohio offers more individual tournaments for players than any other league. We offer individuals and teams a chance to go to Las Vegas and compete in National Tournaments. Players go to tournaments based on their abilities. We offer travel assistance to teams to go to Vegas.

We also do our best to maintain the privacy of our players. You will never see your phone number, address, or e-mail address on our website. We do not give addresses of other players out over the phone. We try not to give out phone numbers upon request and always ask if it is okay to give out numbers to potential captains or players.

SPRING SESSION BEST SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD:

The sportsmanship award goes to: COLD SHOTS out of Crown Sports Lounge in Westerville. Team members are: Captain, Jason Anderson, Co-Captain, Jennifer Brenner; Dave Dill, Joe Zuppardo, Terry Baumler, Scott Wilson, Aimee Howard, and John Antonelli. Sportsmanship trophies will be available at the Tri-Cup on June 2-4. Congratulations, team. Out of 18 weeks, you received 10 compliments from other teams.

SPRING PRIZE FUND CHECKS:

All prize fund checks have been mailed to the teams for the spring session. Captains, if you have not received your check please contact the League Office immediately. Team players, if you have not received your part of the check, please contact your captain. Please cash and distribute checks as soon as possible.

SUMMER SESSION:

We are in the second week of play for most divisions. One major change is that you no longer have to pay for byes. However, you still must turn in your scoresheets, either by mail or drop on time in order to receive the bonus point for the bye.

New rule books are here for the 2005/2006 years. New captains have them. They will be available at the Tri-Cup and City Tournaments. New by-laws are still being worked on. All captains will receive a new set as soon as they are done.

The following teams are winners for each division for the spring session:

This was a fun tournament and keeps growing each session. It will be more and more important for players to pre-register for the top gun tournaments because they continue to grow and there is a 64 player limit.

SPRING 9-BALL TOP GUN TOURNAMENT:

Because there has been interest in a 9-ball Top Gun and because we now have more teams participating in 9-ball, we are offering a Top Gun tournament for 9-ball players on June 4 at the 8 Ball Sports Bar and Billiards. To offer the event to more players, we are inviting the top twenty players from each division. Although the deadline to register is May 31, we will accept registrations at the door. You may register at 9:00am. Play begins at 9:30am.

TOP GUN FUN BUNCH TOURNAMENT:

This is a newly added tournament. The purpose of this tournament is to offer tournament play to players who may not have an opportunity to play in either the Tri-Cup tournaments or the Top Gun tournament. This tournament will be held June 10 (same day as the 9-Ball City Tournament-where one of the teams goes to Las Vegas to compete in the 9-Ball National Tournament). This tournament is being offered for many reasons. 1) The change in the structure of the league where individuals no longer receive a portion of the team prize fund, 2) offer players a chance to play in a non-pressured tournament atmosphere for experience. We encourage any of you who received a letter on this tournament to join us. You still have time to register.

SINGLES BOARDS:

Mark Bean represented Central Ohio APA in Las Vegas during the National Singles event. He placed 17th, winning a total of $600 in money and prizes. Thanks Mark for a good job. Congratulations on a good effort!

A singles board was run at the TopGun tournament on May 20. Ron Rowland, who plays out of Delaware and Marysville won the tournament. He will be participating in the Fall Singles Regional.

RUN SINGLES BOARDS NOW!!

Mark did very well at the National Singles tournament in the skill level 6-7 bracket. Once again, there were very few participants in the 2-3 skill level competition. Only 29 players competed in Las Vegas in this bracket. The winner took home $15,000 in prizes and cash. The runner-up took home $9,000 in prizes and cash. This is one more reason for lower skilled players to get used to competing in tournaments. Who knows, play the Top Fun Tournament, play singles boards, and you could be headed to Vegas to win $15,000.
