CENTRAL OHIO APA NEWS AND EVENTS

SUMMER SESSION:

Prize Fund Checks:

Some captains have not cashed the prize fund checks from the summer session. If you haven’t, please do so and distribute to your summer players.

Summer MVP Tournament:

The summer MVP Tournament was held October 5 at the Golden 8 Ball. We had 24 participants. The winner was Rich Chandler from Columbus. He won $170. We would like to thank all that participated. Thanks to Brian Nash out of the Lancaster league for running this tournament.

FALL SESSION:

We get notes on scoresheets or calls about skill levels on players. We want you to know that we do put a watch on these players or teams before sending out the next week’s scoresheets and continue to monitor over the next several weeks. Most of the time, a complaint is on a new player whose skill levels have not averaged out because he/she doesn’t have 10 plays in. Unless there is something that is strikingly obvious, we usually don't change the skill level, but let the computer do the averaging. Until a player has 10 scores in, he/she could jump up a couple of skill levels and go back down a couple during the first 10 weeks of play. This is normal and is not something that we are sitting at the office adjusting. So please bear with the fact that once the 10 scores are in the computer, the skill level will even out. Remember that you were all new to the APA once also.

Sometimes, complaints are on a lower skilled player beating a player who is a couple of skills higher. This can happen! But does the person who got beat know how the lower skilled player played in previous matches? NO! Remember that this is a handicapped league. Everyone has a right to have a good night and a scoresheet and entered that way. It is better to call now to correct this than to wait until the last week to ask about players’ plays. chance to win!

Always check your scoresheets to make sure your players have the correct number of plays in. Many times, the player number is written wrong on the scoresheet and entered that way. It is better to call now to correct any problems than to wait until the last week to ask about a player’s plays.

Matches Played:

We get several questions regarding the number of matches a player needs to play each session.

Summer and fall sessions: All players (new and current) need 6 plays in before the playoffs.

Spring session: Current players need 6 plays before the playoffs. New players must play 10 times to be eligible for higher level tournaments (scores can be obtained in regular session and playoffs).

These rules are written in the Local by-laws. Please take the time to read them.

Make up matches:

We still have some make up matches that need to be played from the first 4 weeks. We know it is difficult to schedule in the time to do these, but they must be played. We hope that every team took the time to state how it should be handled to get teams to get their matches played and what the consequences should be if they are not made up.

Player Survey:

Each captain will be receiving a player survey form with week 8 scoresheets. We are awarding 2 bonus points to each team whose players fill out the forms and return them by week 12. It is in your best interest, captains, to make copies and distribute to team players to receive your bonus points!

9-Ball Teams

TO ALL 9 BALL TEAMS PLAYING NOW:

This will continue to be in the newsletter until we are: 1J able to send a 9 ball team to Vegas or: 2L won’t be sending any teams at all because we don’t meet the national requirements. Please read below:

NEW NATIONAL RULING FOR 2002:

IF THERE ARE 13 TEAMS OR LESS BY THE END OF THE SPRING SESSION, THERE WILL BE NO TEAMS GOING TO VEGAS. 14-35 TEAMS, WE CAN SEND ONE TEAM TO VEGAS NEXT AUGUST.

Don’t let all of your efforts this year go to waste. Work on building the 9-ball league for the spring now. If you have any questions, please call our office.

Singles Boards

The deadline for running singles boards is November 30. A few boards are out, but none have been returned. Please schedule the singles events, let us know and we will get the information to the players either through the newsletter or with scoresheets.

UPCOMING NEW LEAGUES AND EVENTS:

We are offering a "Top Gun" league to all players set at a handicap of 5 or higher.

    1. 4 players/team
    2. 3 players play per night
    3. $30/per night

This is a "NO HANDICAP DIVISION"

Flyers went out to all players who were set at a handicap of 5 or higher. We have had some interest and actually have 1 team. But this team can’t do it by itself!! Step forward, take the challenge, and try for a chance for your team to go to Vegas! Room & air fare will be paid by local league office to tournament only.

MATCHES PLAYED PLAQUE:

Plaques have been delivered to our office. We will make every effort to get them to the players who ordered them as soon as possible. They are really nice and hopefully in a few months we will be able to place another order. Call the office if you think you may have 100 plays in.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING PLAYERS FOR OVER 500 MATCHES PLAYED IN THE APA LEAGUE:

David Hatcher 523

Hurley Price 582

Homer Smith 588

A big thanks to all 3 of you for your support of the APA for so many years!!! And to everyone else who has supported the APA Pool League for so many years.

PERSONAL NOTES AND COMMENTS:

Congratulations to:

Robert Nichols and Amy Meadors on the birth of their new baby girl!! Maggie Elizabeth Ann Nichols was born October 3. (look at the initials – MEAN!) Do you think the parents did this on purpose?

Andy and Stacey Fisher on the birth of their new baby boy!! Andrew Jacob Masse` born September 27. Drew was born 4 weeks early but was very healthy and all are doing well. We know his parents (at least daddy) did the naming on purpose!!!

Brian Harrison and Amy Howard on the birth of their new baby girl (we are a little belated, she’s 4 months old!). Jordan Marie Harrison was born July 5.

Congratulations, Parents!!

A collection was taken for James Degelman out of the Richwood Division at either the Summer Tri-Cup or City Tournament (forget which). He was in the hospital for 50 days. He has been out now and is getting stronger every day.

Brian Raymond who played out of Q-Stix passed away September 28 at the age of 35. Our condolences to out to his family members and friends. Such a young age.

Lowell Nutter from the Logan League passed away October 14 from battling cancer. We would like to offer our condolences to his wife Diane and family.
